✅  How to book your XL Escape

All bookings are managed directly through the official Pigeon Door website: pigeondoor.com/home-page

Kim & Chris Ewen

We are SO excited to welcome you to our home! As the founders of XL Escapes, we pour our hearts into creating a space where you can relax, unwind, and make lasting memories.

With two rescue dogs—Holly from Bosnia and Buddy from All Bullie Rescue—and Nala, our beautiful ginger cat (and undisputed Queen of the house), we understand how important it is to feel not just at home, but truly content and relaxed—especially when traveling with your furry companions.

Our goal is to offer more than just a holiday; we want to provide a home away from home where you can escape daily pressures, have a laugh, and enjoy quality time with loved ones. Whether it’s a cosy night in, exploring the local area, or simply making time for yourself, we’re here to make your stay special.

If you have any requests—big or small—just let us know. We’re always happy to help (and we love an excuse to bring a smile to your face, drink in hand, of course!).

Meet Your Hosts

Andrew and Lisa-Jayne, along with their three children, have lived at Pigeon Door for over eight years. Over the last five, they’ve poured their creativity into converting the buses themselves, creating a glamping site full of character. They pride themselves on offering guests a place to “step off the world” and truly relax.

XL Escapes Peace Of Mind Promise

Every business you see on XL Escapes has confirmed to us that they welcome XL Bullies. Before being listed, we ask the questions we’d want answered ourselves — from real experience living and travelling with XL and reactive dogs. That includes confirming they are happy to host XL Bullies, that their listing details are accurate, and that they’ve considered their own legal and insurance responsibilities. We don’t assume. We don’t guess. We ask — and they confirm. If anything changes or a business doesn’t stand by what they’ve told us, we take it seriously. If a business listed on XL Escapes turns you away because of your dogs breed, contact us. We will review it, remove them if necessary, and refund your membership.

Pigeon Door – Quirky Double Decker Buses with Private Hot Tubs

⚲ Ryton, near Shrewsbury, Shropshire

6 guests per bus · 3 bedrooms · Unlimited dogs welcomed free of charge · Enclosed private garden with ¾ acre field · 4–6ft fenced paddocks · All breeds welcomed · Private hot tub · Horses welcome May–September

Step off the world and into something truly unique: three quirky double decker buses, each converted into cosy glamping hideaways with private hot tubs, fenced gardens, and space for dogs to run free. Surrounded by peaceful Shropshire countryside, this is glamping with personality.

Full Property Description:

The owners have lived here for 14 years, with Pigeon Door welcoming guests for over 11 years of unique countryside stays. Pigeon Door is a glamping site unlike anywhere else. Tucked away on a peaceful Shropshire smallholding, three double decker buses have been lovingly converted by the owners into quirky, comfortable hideaways where families and their dogs can escape everyday life. Each bus has its own fully fenced private garden and around ¾ of an acre of enclosed field, giving dogs the space to run, sniff and play while owners relax in the countryside. Every bus also comes with its own private hot tub, so you can soak under the stars after a day exploring. Inside, the buses keep their original character with authentic seating and quirky details, but they’ve been thoughtfully adapted for modern comfort. Expect cosy living spaces, heaters to keep you warm all year, dining areas, and fully equipped kitchens with ovens, hobs, fridges and all the utensils you’ll need. Linen and towels are included, and each bus has a TV/DVD player for winding down in the evenings. Betsy Blue (1981 Leyland Atlanteen) sleeps 5 with three upstairs bedrooms and a private bathroom hut. Her garden has a patio, furniture, and an outdoor hot tub with views across the Stretton Hills. Billie Blue (1990 “Wumpty” bus) sleeps 6 with three bedrooms and an indoor wetroom. She has her own garden with decking, furniture, and hot tub — perfect for families who want everything under one roof. Beetie Bus, the largest, also sleeps 6 and offers extra space with a dressing table upstairs. Her garden features a traditional wood-fired hot tub, where guests stoke the fire themselves with wood and kindling provided, adding a rustic adventure to your stay. Outside your private space, the smallholding itself is calm and rural, with views stretching across open countryside towards the Shropshire Hills. Guests staying in Betsy Blue and Beetie Bus may spot the owners’ two pet sheep and two alpacas wandering nearby, so this is worth keeping in mind for reactive dogs. Horses are also welcome to stay from May to September, with seasonal paddocks available — making Pigeon Door a unique choice for equestrian holidays. Whether you’re looking for a romantic break with your dogs, a family adventure with plenty of outdoor space, or simply somewhere unusual and memorable, Pigeon Door offers a balance of comfort, charm, and countryside freedom.
