Kim & Chris Ewen

We are SO excited to welcome you to our home! As the founders of XL Escapes, we pour our hearts into creating a space where you can relax, unwind, and make lasting memories.

With two rescue dogs—Holly from Bosnia and Buddy from All Bullie Rescue—and Nala, our beautiful ginger cat (and undisputed Queen of the house), we understand how important it is to feel not just at home, but truly content and relaxed—especially when traveling with your furry companions.

Our goal is to offer more than just a holiday; we want to provide a home away from home where you can escape daily pressures, have a laugh, and enjoy quality time with loved ones. Whether it’s a cosy night in, exploring the local area, or simply making time for yourself, we’re here to make your stay special.

If you have any requests—big or small—just let us know. We’re always happy to help (and we love an excuse to bring a smile to your face, drink in hand, of course!).

Meet Your Hosts

Laverock Hall Farm was originally converted into holiday cottages by Marcus and Mandy Bainbridge after recognising the growing demand for genuinely multi-dog-friendly accommodation. Today, Kieran and Saki Drea are proud to continue that legacy, welcoming guests and their dogs to experience everything the farm and surrounding countryside have to offer.

XL Escapes Peace Of Mind Promise

Every business you see on XL Escapes has confirmed to us that they welcome XL Bullies. Before being listed, we ask the questions we'd want answered ourselves — from real experience living and travelling with XL and reactive dogs. That includes confirming they are happy to host XL Bullies, that their listing details are accurate, and that they've considered their own legal and insurance responsibilities. We don't assume. We don't guess. We ask — and they confirm. If anything changes or a business doesn't stand by what they've told us, we take it seriously. If a business listed on XL Escapes turns you away because of your dog's breed, contact us. We will review it, remove them if necessary, and refund your membership.

Full Property Description:

Welcome to Laverock Lodge, one of two multi-dog-friendly holiday cottages at Laverock Hall Farm. Originally part of the farm's hayloft dating back to the mid-1700s, the building has been sympathetically converted into comfortable holiday accommodation whilst keeping many of its original features, including exposed beams and stonework. Sleeping up to four guests, the cottage offers an open-plan kitchen, dining and lounge area with a full-size oven and hob, fridge freezer, microwave, toaster and all essential kitchen equipment. The lounge features a real wood-burning stove set within a traditional stone fireplace, creating a cosy place to relax after a day exploring the North Pennines. Laverock Lodge is arranged over two floors, with both bedrooms and the main bathroom upstairs within the original beamed hayloft. The accommodation includes one double bedroom and one twin bedroom, together with a family bathroom upstairs and an additional downstairs toilet. A handmade wooden stairgate is fitted at the bottom of the stairs to help prevent dogs accessing the upper floor if required. Every cottage has a dedicated dog shower room, accessed through the entrance building. This provides space for muddy boots and jackets, together with a purpose-built dog shower, grooming table and professional Aelous blaster. Guests are welcome to enjoy the enclosed private garden, purpose-built agility arena, six-acre dog exercise field and separate deer-fenced paddock throughout their stay. Farm activities take place throughout the year and guests are welcome to watch or join in.

Dog-Friendly Details That Matter

XL Bullies are welcomed. Reactive dogs are welcomed and the owners understand that some dogs may have additional needs. Up to four dogs stay free of charge. Additional dogs are welcome for £25 per dog per week. The cottage has its own fully enclosed private garden. The garden has a minimum 4ft wall or fence. A separate stone/fence wall approximately 6½ft high separates the two cottages. Private parking is available within the enclosed front garden. The enclosed garden backs directly onto the six-acre dog exercise field. Guests have use of a six-acre stock-fenced exercise field. Exclusive use of the field can be requested by raising the flag at the entrance so neighbouring guests know not to enter. A separate approximately 35m² paddock enclosed with 6½–8ft deer fencing is available for dogs without reliable recall. A 120ft indoor agility arena is available throughout the year. Lessons are available on request. Every cottage has its own purpose-built dog shower room with hot shower, grooming table and professional Aelous blaster. There is also an outside hot water tap and hose for washing dogs before entering. Crates can be borrowed free of charge. Well-behaved dogs may be left unattended in the dog shower room if owners wish to go out. The property has tiled floors and rugs downstairs to provide better grip for older dogs. There are no delicate ornaments positioned at dog tail height. Dogs following a BARF diet can request an additional chest freezer free of charge before arrival. Woofsteps offers an on-site dog walking and dog sitting service.

Neighbourhood Overview:
