Kim & Chris Ewen

We are SO excited to welcome you to our home! As the founders of XL Escapes, we pour our hearts into creating a space where you can relax, unwind, and make lasting memories.

With two rescue dogs—Holly from Bosnia and Buddy from All Bullie Rescue—and Nala, our beautiful ginger cat (and undisputed Queen of the house), we understand how important it is to feel not just at home, but truly content and relaxed—especially when traveling with your furry companions.

Our goal is to offer more than just a holiday; we want to provide a home away from home where you can escape daily pressures, have a laugh, and enjoy quality time with loved ones. Whether it’s a cosy night in, exploring the local area, or simply making time for yourself, we’re here to make your stay special.

If you have any requests—big or small—just let us know. We’re always happy to help (and we love an excuse to bring a smile to your face, drink in hand, of course!).

Meet Your Hosts

Opening a holiday let has been a lifelong dream for Charlotte. After years working in the corporate world—Phil in IT and Charlotte in recruitment—they understand just how important it is to take a proper break. Finding accommodation that genuinely welcomed their own larger dogs proved surprisingly difficult, so they decided to create the kind of place they had always wanted to stay themselves. Bella and Peggy, their much-loved dogs, are very much part of the family and inspired Copse on the Broads to become somewhere that dogs are genuinely welcomed, not simply tolerated.

XL Escapes Peace Of Mind Promise

Every business you see on XL Escapes has confirmed to us that they welcome XL Bullies. Before being listed, we ask the questions we'd want answered ourselves — from real experience living and travelling with XL and reactive dogs. That includes confirming they are happy to host XL Bullies, that their listing details are accurate, and that they've considered their own legal and insurance responsibilities. We don't assume. We don't guess. We ask — and they confirm. If anything changes or a business doesn't stand by what they've told us, we take it seriously. If a business listed on XL Escapes turns you away because of your dog's breed, contact us. We will review it, remove them if necessary, and refund your membership.

Amenities:

Dog-Friendly Details That Matter

XL Bullies are welcomed. Reactive dogs are welcome. Up to 3 dogs of any size are welcome at no extra cost. Dogs are welcome throughout the cottage, including on the sofas and beds. Guests are asked to keep dogs on lead and muzzled whilst using the shared driveway. The cottage has a fully enclosed private garden with 6ft closed-board fencing and a grass area. The closed-board fencing prevents guest dogs from seeing the owners' dogs, and vice versa. The cottage and garden are completely secure. A hot and cold outdoor dog shower is provided after muddy walks. Dog towels, a water bowl and homemade dog treats are all provided. A full-size fridge freezer is available with plenty of space for guests feeding a raw diet. The owners live next door, but guest dogs do not meet their dogs. The only shared area is the driveway, where both the owners' dogs and guest dogs remain on leads. The property is tucked away down a track in a residential area, away from an immediate main road. Two secure dog exercise fields are just a few minutes' drive away. Miles of marshland walks begin almost from the doorstep.

Neighbourhood Overview:

Copse on the Broads is perfectly positioned for guests wanting both relaxation and adventure. Located beside miles of open marshland, you'll have peaceful walks almost straight from the front door, with Oulton Marshes, the Broads National Park and the Angles Way all within a few minutes' walk. Oulton Broad is within easy walking distance for waterside pubs, restaurants and boat trips, while several year-round dog-friendly beaches are only around 10 minutes away by car. If you'd like to explore further afield, Norwich and Framlingham Castle are both within driving distance, while paddleboarding, canoeing, sailing, birdwatching and river cruises can all be enjoyed nearby.
