Full Property Description:

Rill House is a dog owner’s dream escape — a 400-year-old thatched Grade II Listed cottage reimagined to put four paws first. Lovingly redecorated with the help of local craftspeople and an interior designer, this award-winning home combines history and style with genuine dog-friendly freedom. From the moment you arrive through the solid wooden gates, privacy and peace set the tone. Inside the courtyard you’ll hear birdsong and the gentle trickle of your own stream, with a footbridge leading into a huge enclosed garden — just over a quarter of an acre of safe space for zoomies, games, or quiet naps in the sunshine. Designed with dogs in mind, the garden is secured with 4–6ft stone walls, fencing, mesh, and gates, while the courtyard is enclosed and gated for added peace of mind. Step inside and you’ll find a warm, spacious holiday home that sleeps up to 8 guests across 4 bedrooms — three kings and one twin. With four reception rooms, there’s space for everyone: a farmhouse-style kitchen with American fridge freezer and Belfast sinks, a cosy lounge with Sky Stream and a woodburner, a separate dining room, and a snug filled with board games, books, and toys for all ages. Upstairs, thick underlay and plush carpets keep things quiet and cosy, while the bathrooms offer indulgence, including a decadent claw-foot roll-top bath with countryside views. The house is packed with thoughtful touches: TVs in every bedroom, WiFi throughout, highchairs and cots for little ones, and even doggy extras like throws, towels, bowls, and holiday ID tags. If your dogs usually sleep on the bed, Rill House will even remove bedding so you can bring your own, or provide duvets for a small charge. A dog stroller is also available if your pup tires easily on walks, saving valuable car space. Step outside the gates and you’re in the heart of Slapton, with two dog-friendly pubs serving great food just a short stroll away. Best of all, the local beach is only half a mile away — three glorious miles of sand and sea with no dog restrictions all year. Beyond Slapton, the South Hams region is renowned for its dog-friendly culture, with welcoming pubs, cafés, and shops in nearby Dartmouth and Salcombe, plus castles, steam trains, boat rides, and endless South Devon adventures. With private parking for three cars, space for the whole pack, and a location that’s as historic as it is dog welcoming, Rill House is more than just a holiday cottage — it’s an award-winning experience where your dogs truly are part of the family.
