We are SO excited to welcome you to our home! As the founders of XL Escapes, we pour our hearts into creating a space where you can relax, unwind, and make lasting memories.
With two rescue dogs—Holly from Bosnia and Buddy from All Bullie Rescue—and Nala, our beautiful ginger cat (and undisputed Queen of the house), we understand how important it is to feel not just at home, but truly content and relaxed—especially when traveling with your furry companions.
Our goal is to offer more than just a holiday; we want to provide a home away from home where you can escape daily pressures, have a laugh, and enjoy quality time with loved ones. Whether it’s a cosy night in, exploring the local area, or simply making time for yourself, we’re here to make your stay special.
If you have any requests—big or small—just let us know. We’re always happy to help (and we love an excuse to bring a smile to your face, drink in hand, of course!).
Meet Your Hosts
Simon and I had 2 Staffies and 2 GSD's and trying to find any place that would accommodate not only these breeds but also met their specific needs was challanging. Yes we could find places but .... they were functional to say the least - You live in a lovely home, why would you want to spend your precious leisure time and hard worked for money on a place that was yes do friendly, but just functional?
We set out to change that model and so we built our 3 cottages on our Country Estate. We want our guests both 2 and 4 legged to feel as though they are coming "home" and that they are staying with us and not in just a soulless holiday cottage - every holiday counts and every dog is precious and no dog should ever have to be muzzled just because they "fit" a type and this is why we welcome all dogs and specifically BSL's and Xl's.

Before being listed, we ask the questions we’d want answered ourselves — from real experience living and travelling with XL and reactive dogs. We don’t assume. We don’t guess. We ask — and they confirm.
If anything changes or a business doesn’t stand by what they’ve told us, we take it seriously.

Welcome to our multi award winning Quantock Cottages in Somerset. A place where boutique luxury meets the charm of rural Somerset. Our 3 unique dog-friendly cottages which have 6ft fenced dog exercise fields and also 6ft fenced gardens, are set within the privacy of our country estate.
Being lovers of Bull Breeds we are horrified as to what the community has had to go through so we waive our £45 per dog fee for L's and BSL's. Our cottages are true home-from-homes and provide for every luxury that our hooman guests desire and provide a safe haven for our doggo guests to really be able to relax, be muzzle free and just to be able to be dogs.

Thus when we built our 3 unique luxury dog friendly cottages we did it from the discerning dogs point of view, and then we thought we better make them super comfortable for our human guests as well. Our Somerset cottages provide the freedom and privacy of self-catering but with the quality, attention to detail and comfort you would expect of a 5* boutique hotel.
Each cottage sleeps up to 4 guests in two bedrooms and each has a 6ft fenced enclosed garden for dogs
With private covered hot tubs, epic country and coastal views, open log burning fires and private outside bars you too will be spoilt and be able to relax and recharge in beautiful surroundings and importantly where you are not thought of as just a booking or a number but as treasured guests of Simon and I - and this is where we differ from so many as is evidenced by our 85% guest return rate who come not only year on year but often several times of year - their woofers insist on it!
