Kim & Chris Ewen

We are SO excited to welcome you to our home! As the founders of XL Escapes, we pour our hearts into creating a space where you can relax, unwind, and make lasting memories.

With two rescue dogs—Holly from Bosnia and Buddy from All Bullie Rescue—and Nala, our beautiful ginger cat (and undisputed Queen of the house), we understand how important it is to feel not just at home, but truly content and relaxed—especially when traveling with your furry companions.

Our goal is to offer more than just a holiday; we want to provide a home away from home where you can escape daily pressures, have a laugh, and enjoy quality time with loved ones. Whether it’s a cosy night in, exploring the local area, or simply making time for yourself, we’re here to make your stay special.

If you have any requests—big or small—just let us know. We’re always happy to help (and we love an excuse to bring a smile to your face, drink in hand, of course!).

Meet Your Hosts

Frank’s Freedom Field is run by dog owners who understand the challenges of exercising reactive dogs and large breeds. Inspired by their own pack of huskies, they designed the space as a safe, private alternative to public walks. Their focus is on security, natural enrichment, and giving dogs the chance to simply be dogs.

Frank’s Freedom Field – Secure Dog Field in Girton

⚲ Girton, near Newark, Nottinghamshire

3-acre secure field · 6ft tornado deer fencing · Airlock drive-in parking · All breeds welcomed · XL Bullies/exempt dogs permitted · Natural features (logs, flood bank, long grass & wildflowers) ·

Frank’s Freedom Field is a secure 3-acre dog field in Girton, Nottinghamshire, designed as a safe “wild walk in a secure environment.” With 6ft fencing, exclusive hire, and drive-in parking, it’s ideal for reactive dogs, nervous rescues, or XL Bullies needing space and freedom.

Full Property Description:

Frank’s Freedom Field is a 3-acre enclosed paddock on the outskirts of Girton, near Newark. Designed originally for a pack of huskies, it provides a safe and private environment where dogs can enjoy the freedom of off-lead exercise. The field is fully surrounded by 6ft tornado deer fencing and includes airlock parking inside the field, so you can drive in, shut the gates behind you, and let your dogs out straight into the secure space. With exclusive-use bookings, you won’t encounter other dogs or owners during your slot, unless you choose to bring a friend along (limited to two vehicles per visit). Unlike fields with lots of man-made agility structures, Frank’s offers a more natural environment — long grass, wildflowers in summer, large logs to clamber over, and a tall flood bank along one edge that dogs love to run up and down. It’s less about agility and more about a “sniffari,” giving your dogs the chance to explore, scent, and play as they would on a countryside walk, but with the peace of mind of secure fencing. The field is regularly checked for safety, though owners are advised to always assess the space for their own dogs — particularly small dogs, diggers, or determined escape artists. Poo bins are provided, and visitors are asked to follow a “see one, pick one up” policy to keep the field clean for everyone. This field is especially suitable for reactive dogs, nervous rescues, or large breeds like XL Bullies who need secure space to run free without judgment or risk.
