The Old Butchers Cottage is a charming 3-bedroom stone cottage in Matlock, renovated to a high standard and designed for a comfortable stay in the Peak District. Sleeping up to 6 guests and welcoming pets, it’s well suited to families, couples, or friends looking to relax and explore the surrounding countryside.
Set in a quiet part of Matlock and nestled on a hillside, the cottage offers lovely views over the town and nearby hills. Matlock is known as the gateway to the Peak District and is home to scenic walks, independent shops, and a welcoming atmosphere. With great transport links and plenty to see and do, it makes an ideal base for exploring Derbyshire.
Inside, the cottage combines character with modern touches. The living room is warm and inviting, with games and TV entertainment for all ages. The kitchen is fully equipped for cooking and baking, and the dining area is a comfortable space for enjoying meals together. Gas central heating makes it a cosy place to stay all year round.
There are three bedrooms: a super-king master with ensuite, a second bedroom with a king-size bed, and a third with two single beds. Each room is spacious and includes storage for your belongings. The family bathroom includes both a shower and a separate bath — ideal after long countryside walks.
Child-friendly amenities are available, including a highchair, baby gate, plastic dinnerware, and travel cot on request.

- The environment is peaceful and tranquil, however, there is one connecting garden and there are occasionally dogs walked passed the garden gate.
- On nights such as Bonfire Night and New Years Eve, you might hear some fireworks.
- The Butchers Cottage does not have dog crates available and ask that you bring your own, if required.
- Bob Hannah does not have dog beds or spare throws, and ask that you bring your own.

- Bob Hannah Hosts kindly request that dogs do not go on the furniture.

Hi, I’m Steve — proud host of The Old Butchers Cottage in beautiful Matlock. After falling in love with the Peak District, I knew I wanted to create a space where guests could truly unwind after a day of exploring.
With years of experience in property and mentoring other holiday home owners, I’m passionate about creating homes that feel special, relaxed, and full of character. The cottage has been our own little escape from city life, and I hope it brings you that same sense of calm, joy, and lasting memories.

✅ How to Book
1. Choose your dates - Use the calendar below to check live availability and prices. Dates in green show when the property is available. Most homes require a minimum 2-night stay, so some single green nights may not be bookable. If a date is green and underlined, it’s part of a valid stay.
2. Submit a booking request - Fill in your details to send a request directly to both XL Escapes and the property host.
3. We’ll confirm everything within 24 hours - The host will respond to confirm availability, the deposit required to secure your stay, the full balance remaining, and when it’s due (typically 4-6 weeks before arrival).
4. Pay your deposit and secure your stay - You’ll receive a Stripe payment link by email. Once the deposit is received, your booking is confirmed and your dates are locked in.
